The Suez Canal is an important waterway in the world today. It is currently controlled by the Suez Canal Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Roughly 20,000 ships use the Suez Canal every year. The Suez Canal is very important today because if the Canal didn't exist ships would have to sail around Africa which would increase the price on goods shipped from the parts of Asia and Africa such as oil.
