Charles Darwin was an English biologist. In 1859, Darwin published a book called The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. This book had all of his thinking in it which went against the widely accepted answer of how we explain the tremendous variety of plants and animals that we find on earth. The common answer to the question was that every species of plants and animals were created by God at the beginning of the world and has been here since. This theory of change through natural selection came to be called the theory of evolution. While Darwin's ideas caused an excitement among scientists it also roused a storm of debate outside the scientific community. Many believed it contradicted the Bible. Ever since Darwin came up with the theory of evolution there has been great controversy over it and to this day teachers are unable to teach it in public schools.
